Have you ever wondered what it's like to be in a zombie apocalypse? Well DAYZ is as close as you're going to get to it. DAYZ is an open world survival game created by Dean hall. You are first spawned randomly along the coast of Chernarus plagued with zombies and other survivors. Your main objective is to survive as long as you can by gathering the scraps of food, water, weaponry and medicine from the ravaged land.
There are 225 square kilometers of terrain for you to roam and explore. The 3 biggest threats to your survival are:
1. Running out of food/water
2. zombies and,
3. other players.
As a frequent player of DAYZ i find that 9/10 deaths are due to other players, and zombies and supplies just pose as small obstacles.
What I most enjoy and find interesting about this game is the player interaction. DAYZ has to a large extent replicated the experience of survival and human interaction. As such, a general rule in DAYZ is to never trust ANYONE! Let me first explain that when you die in DAYZ you lose everything, and you are re spawned hours away from your body. It doesn't take a lot to die in DAYZ either, most high powered rifles 1 shot you from the chest up. Sometimes i'll just be walking in a forest in the middle of no where and ill hear a shot and.. well that's it, i'm dead... Areas such as cities and military based where there is rare/essential are usually where a lot of players are, so if you enter one of these areas you must be on high alert. So you can now see why meeting up with players is such a delicate situation.
In DAYZ you can choose to be two types of players, but no body else will know what you are until the last minute. You can be a Bandit (a person who kills everyone they meet in order to steal their loot), or you can be a Hero (a person who will help other survivors and work together to hunt down bandits). There are no distinct physical differences between a hero and a bandit, this is the dilemma that many people in DAYZ face. So if you saw someone, what would you do?
Some features of the game that enhance player interaction and the feel of post apocalyptic survival include cars, helicopters, handcuffs, poison, bear traps, tents, hunting, disease, ghillie suits and more. DAYZ is a game that has provided me with many entertaining and unique experiences that you wont find in any other game. I'd rate this game 7/10!
Thank you for reading, ill see you in the next blog!
