'Osu!' is a rhythm based game where players have to hit markers on a 'beatmap' while following the beat of the game. Originally developed as a proof of concept, the release of the game has brought rhythm games to more mobile devices.
Developed by Dean Herbert in 2007, the game was originally published on 1 July 2007 and sent to the developer's friends. Between that time and 16 September of the same year, the game has been further refined and the inclusion of difficulties being added. From there the game progressed and continued to develop into what it is now.
The game has expanded through the years and is now available on Android and iOS devices as well as Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems. Furthermore with the implementation of the ranking system, the game has seen an increase of players to the current figure of over 8 million players. The game continues to develop and expand its available beatmaps to this day with the community creating more and more beatmaps for the game/music.
Pros:
- Free to download and play
- Easy to understand how to play
- Community has role to play in the continuation of new songs and features
Cons:
- Easy to play, hard to master
- Music is more Japanese-based than any other language
- Due to the genre of the game, it has a niche market
Rating: 7.5/10
